Skyler

Give us a little background on the band.

I grew up in York, Maine and have been performing all my life. I began writing songs when I was in third grade and began playing drums, guitar, bass, and piano shortly after. As soon as I was able, I began performing. I ended up going to Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. I am now performing with my band full time.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your band before?

A mixture of pop, rock, and country. I’ve been called the male version of Taylor Swift.

Again, for those unfamiliar with your band, could you briefly describe the band’s history from its inception to the present time?

I began writing with Adam and Michael Scharff when I was still in high school. When I went to Berklee College of Music, I decided that I needed to find a band to perform the songs that we had been writing. That is where I met John Mullett (fiddle, keyboards, guitar, vocals). After a number of different lineup changes, Michael Scharff joined the band on bass guitar and vocals, and Adam Scharff joined on lead guitar and vocals. We recorded our first EP, Long Gone, and went looking for a permanent drummer. We found Mark Davenport who will be making his recording debut with the band on our forthcoming EP, Take You Away.

Who are you some of your musical influences?

The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, The Who, etc.

If you could pick any 3 bands to be on tour with, who would it be?

Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Mumford and Sons.

If you could play a show at any venue in the world, where would you choose to perform?

Madison Square Garden.

Tell us a random fact about yourself.

I’m gluten free (not by choice).

Who inspires you musically and personally?

Musically: Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney. Personally: My songwriting partners.

What is your favorite song to perform on Long Gone?

It’s Just the Night.

If you could be any animal, what animal would you want to be?

A coyote.

How can fans get more involved with the band and helping to promote?

They can join the street team. Our street team leader will give you missions and ways to promote the music. You can also get free stuff if you help promote the band!

What are your plans for the rest of the winter and this coming spring/summer? Any tour plans?

We have a new EP coming out in April called Take You Away. We will be touring throughout the rest of the spring/summer to support the new record.

If you were a T-shirt what would you say?

Rock n Roll can save you soul.

What are some goals you would like to achieve in 2011?

Play for more people than I’ve ever played for before.

Memphis May Fire

http://www.myspace.com/memphismayfire

Please introduce yourself and your position in the band.

Hi, I’m Kellen, I play guitar and sing in the band.

To someone who has never heard Memphis May Fire before, how would you describe your sound?

I suppose I would say that we are our own version rock n roll inspired riffs with a modern heaviness, and a positive, in-your-face message.

Again, for those unfamiliar with your band, could you briefly describe the band’s history from its inception to the present time?

Well, we started in early 2007 and quickly went from being a solid local band to touring band, to signed national touring band within a matter of months. From there it’s been a lot of touring, blood, sweat, and a ton of hardships and heartbreak to overcome. All in all, it’s made us stronger and better than ever before. We were blessed with Matt as our new singer in late 08 and it’s been awesome ever since. After a short break, we released ‘Sleepwalking’ last summer to rave reviews and began touring in support of it immediately. Now, with Japan and many national tours under our belt, we’re gearing up to release an EP and a full length, and are heading to Europe in October/November.

Who are you some of your musical influences?

We listen to everything honestly. Of course everyone has their own personal favorites but we truly listen to everything. I think it’s probably common knowledge now that we love Drake, (we play it before every show). Personally, I think 90’s rock influenced me a lot, (STP, Soundgarden) but I’m a sucker for heavier rock bands like Killswitch and Atreyu and I still jam Meshuggah’s ‘Obzen’.

How did you come up with the name Memphis May Fire?

I wish I had a sweet story for you, (and I’m sure there is one I’ve used before) but it was something we all agreed on at the time and it truly felt like us. When we came up with that, we were all like, “yea, let’s do it!”

You recently announced a tour in the UK and Europe. Are you excited?

We are so stoked to go overseas. We got our feet wet when we went to Japan and had an amazing time, so we’re itching to get to the UK and Europe to show them how we do it down here in Texas.

Do you have any wild or crazy stories from previous tours? Tell us one!

Well, this is something we’re still dealing with but basically earlier this year our transmission crapped out in New Mexico so we had to get it fixed to continue touring. We went negative in our account just paying for the dang thing, and it took 6 days to fix and if it weren’t for the Cracker Barrel in Las Cruces we basically would have starved. It finally was fixed and worked fine until it broke down again 3 months later in San Diego. The transmission mechanic said that whoever put this transmission in used bad parts, old parts, wrong parts, and even put parts in upside down! Needless to say we broke the bank again trying to pay for the new one because the sketchy shop in Las Cruces had fraudulent “warranties” that were a huge joke. All in all, bad times but we made the best of it for sure!

If you could pick any 3 bands to be on tour with, who would it be?

Every Time I Die, BTMH, and Stone Temple Pilots (just to so I could die happy).

Tell us a random fact about each member.

Cory was probably a full grown man at age 12, Ryan drives his mustang like a nascar driver, Eric sleeps with his eyes and mouth open, and Matt can talk anyone into anything.

What’s something your fans, or anyone, would be shocked to know about you?

It’s not that shocking but only two of us are actually from Texas, the rest of the band is from out of state. And no, we are NOT from Memphis for the last time!

Who inspires you musically and personally?

Musically, I’ve been really stoked lately on the tasteful musicianship in August Burns Red. Those guys are sooo good.

What’s your favorite part of touring?

Eating Taco Bell everyday and having kids come up to me and tell me that they’re glad I decided to make music because it inspires them.

If you were a T-shirt what would you say?

Probably “Huh?”

What song by another artist do you wish you would have written?

“Lollipop” by Lil Wayne because then I would be rich enough to retire right now.

What are your plans for this coming fall? Any tours, after the UK/Europe one?

We have stuff in the works, and a lot of big plans/announcements to go along with all the new music we’ll be putting out in the next couple months.

Is there anything in the near future that fans could look forward to?

BRAND SPANKIN’ NEW MUSIC. And to answer the question I’ve been getting a lot, it is awesome, and heavy.

What are some goals you would like to achieve before the end of the year?

Dominate the UK and Europe and come back home with so cash for once, and after the new music comes out, get the recognition I feel we’ve deserved.

Thank you so much for doing this interview. Is there anything you’d like to add?

You are very welcome! Keep your eyes and ears ready for September! New face melting music is on the way!!

The Hit

http://www.myspace.com/thehit

Please introduce yourself and your position in the band.

Hi! My name is Jorge & I play guitar for The Hit

To someone who has never heard The Hit before, how would you describe your sound?

Well, we’ve been recording a new CD as of late. I’d say it sounds similar to the old school feel of Good Charlotte & maybe Jimmy Eat World. Definitely broaden our genre from Pop/Rock to Dance/Pop

Again, for those unfamiliar with your band, could you briefly describe the band’s history from its inception to the present time?

Band started out with Kade (vocalist) writing songs for fun & wanted to pursue something further. He collected some old time buddies to start a full band. We recorded a Demo EP with Geoff Rockwall (FTSK, AVP, Disco Curtis) & played many shows following its release. In the winter of 2009, we went into the studio with Matt Grabe (The Maine, The Summer Set, Rocket to the Moon) in Arizona to record a full length. Now we are planning on releasing the album Early in 2011 ;) not brief but you get the idea.

Who are you some of your musical influences?

I always listened to the radio since my parents wouldn’t buy me cd’s or tapes. So anything pop or on the radio I always listened to. As I grew older I was able to purchase music for myself and listened to lots of metal. Wouldn’t say that influences me but I certainly enjoy it :)

How did you come up with the name The Hit?

I’m pretty sure it’s some where along the lines of Kade showing some demos to a few friends. They would say “dude that song is a HIT!”. Thus punning the idea of hit songs with our actual band name

Do you have any wild or crazy stories from previous tours? Tell us one!

We were filming a music video in Cali. It was a pretty set by the beach, but we had to haul all our gear over a few mountains that looked pretty deadly to me. So we finally do that but then get kicked out by marshalls because we didn’t have permits to be there. So we load back all our gear & rush to the Stickam headquarters to do a performance. Pretty much the whole day was a disaster. Definitely one of the busiest days of my life!

If you could pick any 3 bands to be on tour with, who would it be?

The All American Rejects, Green Day or Blink 182 when they finally come out with a new album lol

Tell us a random fact about each member.

Me: Weird

Kade: Weirder

Mike: Sports Guy

Colin: Guido

Mark: Business Guru

Who inspires you musically and personally?

Friends, Family, Music, Problems, Boredom, Chicks

What’s your favorite part of touring?

Getting away from home! lol, and meeting people

If you were a T-shirt what would you say?

WWJD (what would Jorge do)

What are your plans for the rest of the summer and this coming fall? Any tours?

The summer is nearly at it’s end. Definitely have some tours in the works for the fall time… the best time!!!

How can fans get more involved with the band and helping to promote?

We just created a mailing list where you can become a Fan/Street Team! You get a free Song once ya sign up! But following us on twitter or liking us facebook to keep up on other news is always important. Mainly listening to our music and sharing it with friends is the biggest thing you can do

Is there anything in the near future that fans could look forward to?

A new full length album and lots of touring! Get ready :)

What are some goals you would like to achieve before the end of the year?

Playing Halo Reach when it comes out & dominating everybody playing ;) but hopefully we get a jump start on some tours so we can meet new people

We came up with a few word associations. Just write the first thing that comes to mind.

Give us a little background on the band:

Well this band consists of…. Me =) Im Trey Williams, im 17 years old and this is what i         do express myself. I love writing music. Music is my passion, cliche, but true!

How would you describe your music?

I would say poppy acoustic or maybe even just plain pop =)

Who are you some of your musical influences?

I have so many. Golly. I love FTSK and The Maine and The Summer Set. I guess it just depends on my moood!

Are you planning on touring any time in the near future?

Its my dream and goal! Im working so hard to get to it and hopefully i can sometime in the future.

If you could pick any 3 bands to be on tour with, who would it be?

There are so many. I would like touring with Stephen Jerzak because we fit around the same style, but i think throwing Forever The Sickest Kids and my friends Face Punch on there would be EPIC.

If 2 bands had a baby and your band was the baby, who would the two parent bands be?

Foreverthesickestkids (again) and… The Temptations (hahahah)

Tell us a random fact about yourself:

I am scared to death of moths…

How does your band differ from other bands in your genre?

I think it is a little different because i have many styles of music. For instance, PickItUpBaby is WAY different then OurSmallTown and way different then TheseLipsDontLie… if that makes sense.

Who inspires you musically and personally?

Personally has to be my parents and my grandpa. They have ALL taught me that hard work ALWAYS pays off. Musically it has to be Stephen Jerzak. He is super successful and has gone a long way.

If you were a jelly bean what flavor would you be?

I dont like jelly beans… but i like orange tic tacs?

If you were a T-shirt what would you say?

 Brohio

How can fans get more involved with the band and helping to promote?

Posting bulletins, following me on twitter, making street teams, ANYTHING helps soooo much!

What’s new for your band in 2010?

All Night Dynamite

http://www.myspace.com/allnightdynamite

This interview was from February, so the answers Denny told us are a little dated. They’re currently on tour with Cash Cash, Bamboo Shoots and The Blue Pages. Make sure to check out they’re myspace for dates.

Who are we talking to right now?

 Denny

How would you describe your music?

  Pop

Who are you some of your musical influences?

Madonna, Prince, Third Eye Blind, Jimmy Eat World

Are you planning on touring any time in the near future?

We love playing live, we hope to tour late spring early summer. No plans set in stone but we are trying to make it happen.  Might not be in the U.S. but either way we are trying to set up tours.

If you could pick any 3 bands to be on tour with, who would it be?

Cash Cash (they are our best friends in and outside of music, it would be so comfortable we know each other like brothers.)  Prince (cos he rocks out live like no other and I hear he still knows how to party) and the 3rd would be Third Eye Blind (because I have idolized their songs since I started writing music and it would a surreal moment of childhood fantasy becoming an actual reality.)

Tell us a random fact about each member.

Joey up until VERY recently was obsessed with Final Fantasy 11 on the internet! lol  Hughie has legit A.D.D. and I kiiiinda have a thing for Lions.

How does your band differ from other bands in your genre?

We are twin brothers who are focused on crafted the ultimate universal pop song.  A lot of people say that’s their goal but they get caught up in such ancillary things like a “Scene” or who’s wearing what and who knows who. Were 100% dedicated to one thing, writing a song to entertain the world.

Who inspires you musically and personally?

Musically we are inspired by amazing song writers from around the world like Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Bloodshy & Avant.  Personally we are inspired by our family, friends, and pop culture.  By the stories our grandparents tell us of how things use to be, by the way our parents support us, and by what is on TMZ lol truth!

If you were a jelly bean what flavor would you be?

Rainbow (do they have rainbow? If they don’t I call dibs on that! copyright D.L. 2010)

If you were a T-shirt what would you say?

I’d be a blank t-shirt.  Ready to be designed and influenced by my environment.  Maybe a mustard stain or two depends on what day of the week I was worn ;o)

How can fans get more involved with the band and helping to promote?

We get asked this a lot and it is always a welcomed question.  You can help us out greatly by purchasing our songs on itunes then burn or send them to all your friends.  Put us in your top friends on Myspace.  Make a flyer or a burned cd with a song or two of ours and hand them out at the mall or a concert.

What’s new for your band in 2010?

We have a CD coming out in Japan late Feb.  Gonna be doing a lot of magazine spreads and interviews for over there. We’ll be on the radio over there as well, stoked bout that.  We also have a new American E.P. coming out in April or May. Hopefully a tour or two this summer.
